Portugal Ranked top retirement destination 2022

Portugal appears at the top of many charts and lists of the best European countries in 2022 in which to retire, and it's easy to see why when the rankings include factors such as health, material well being, quality of life and environment and finances in retirement. Portugal offers stable living conditions, fantastic health-care, strong tax incentives and abundance of natural beauty.
Notably, Greece, Italy, Malta and Switzerland have also made it to the top of the lists released, among others, by the WEF, the World Population Review, Blacktower Financial Group, Expat Financial, Stuff Travel, U.S News, International Living.
Portugal as a retirement destination
Low cost of living, easy residency, tax incentives for foreign residents, cosmopolitan cities, whitewashed cobblestone villages, miles of long, sandy beaches, some of the best golf courses in Europe, pleasant climate and friendly people are among Portugal’s attractions.
The country, one of the safest in the world, is rich in history, culture and natural wonders. Portuguese culture has been described as “a culture that prioritises getting together with family and friends over good food, music, wine.”
Portugal offers several paths to residency, including the fast-track Portuguese Golden Visa. “Portugal’s Golden Visa program grants a two-year residency permit to expats who invest €500,000 in property (in some circumstances, you can get one with a reduced investment of €280,000 or €350,000). The visa, which includes tax benefits on foreign income, can be renewed every two years, provided you spend at least two weeks in the country every two years. You can apply for permanent residency and citizenship after five years.”
Among the best places to retire in Portugal, according to many international sources, are Lisbon, Cascais, Porto, Algarve, Alentejo, Braga, Aveiro, Madeira and The Azores.
